  I'm very upset with this practice overall. Please read if you want to save yourself a hassle. This is coming from a doctor in a different field, so I know when the system (and patient) is being cheated. When I originally called I was only 4 weeks pregnant with my first child, so I had no idea which direction to go. I was referred here, and it sounded perfect for the natural birth that I wanted to have. By the time they got me in a month later, I knew I had miscarried but wanted to keep my appointment due to the excruciating pain I was experiencing. I got to my appointment 20 minutes early so I could fill out paperwork and get in at my actual appointment time. An hour after I arrived they finally took me back. The first lady came in, asked me about my chief complaint, took my blood pressure, and left. The doctor came in, asked me about my chief complaint, gave me a gown to put on, and left. Thirty minutes later (at this point I've waited for 1.5 hours) Dr. Daube came back in, did a pelvic exam, spent 10 minutes with me, and sent me with a list of blood work to get done at Quest. Since I take blood in my office I know that results only take a day to get back, but I gave him 3 days before I called. The front desk said there were abnormal results, but she couldn't talk about them because she wasn't the doctor. She said he'd call back. NINE days later, after me calling twice in the meantime, he finally decided to give me the time of day. He asked me to get another blood test to see if the results were still abnormal, so I complied. Again, it took him about 4 days to get back to me even with me calling once the day before. When he called back he told me to get that same test again; at this point I've been miscarrying for a month and was still bleeding and in horrid pain. I decided to switch doctors. Now here comes the part that upset me the most - the bill. He charged me for a 99204! (which is an expensive exam that tends to be a red flag to insurance companies). This means the exam should be very comprehensive, reviewing multiple systems, have a complex diagnosis, and at least 45 minutes must be spent with the patient. He spent 10 minutes with me, the diagnosis was simple (miscarriage), and he did a local pelvic exam, nothing more. So if he was being honest, the CPT code should've been 99201. What's sad is that I can't fight it because he lied in his doctor's note, saying that he checked all these different systems (i.e. respiratory, neuro, etc) when he definitely did not. Fraudulent doctors who are only out for their wallets are a part of the reason our healthcare system is the way that it is.
